Road to Recovery
This year the American Cancer Society’s “Fund a Mission” will provide an amazing opportunity to support the Road To Recovery program. This program helps provide patients with much-needed transportation, which means rides to and from cancer-related treatment appointments. But in some areas, like here in the River Region, it simply cannot meet the needs. Working within the community, ACS offers a variety of transportation resources. That’s why a successful transportation assistance program can be tremendous asset, and that’s why it’s critical for all of us to play a role in helping save lives.
The Road To Recovery program is at the very heart of the Society’s work of removing barriers to quality health care by providing patients transportation. Last year the Society provided over 3,500 rides to patients in Alabama. In the River Region, we doubled the number of patients we were able to help secure rides, compared to just one year earlier. Some of this increase was a result of ACS providing transportation funding to the local cancer treatment facilities, such as the two $5,000 grants provided to Montgomery Cancer Center.
Please join this year’s “Fund a Need” supporting the Road to Recovery program and let’s Raise the Bar!
Cancer Has Not Stopped and Neither Have We! We need your support more than ever this year. Over the past 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
